Victor Hugo de Oliveira Silva Biography
I am an applied microeconometrician working on health economics and economic development, with expertise in population health topics and the economics of natural disasters. My academic background includes a Ph.D. in Economics from the Universidad de Alicante (Spain) in 2013, under the supervision of Professor Climent Quintana-Domeque (University of Exeter), with whom I have been collaborating since then. Exploring the field of population health, I have investigated how individuals’ health can be shaped by the economic environment in early childhood, as well as by in-utero shocks caused by natural disasters. I have also worked on topics related to C-sections, Zika virus and Intimate Partner Violence in Brazil. Currently, I'm investigating how skin color can generate inequalities in women's health, and expose women to intimate partner violence in Brazil. Recently, I have worked as a senior research associate (2021-2023) at the University of East Anglia, and I'm currently a public policy analyst at the Instituto de Pesquisa e Estratégia Econômica do Ceará (since 2006).
